Dr. Rich most recently served as Chairman and CEO of Berry Global, Inc, a Fortune 500 specialty materials and consumer packaging company, from 2010 to 2018. Before Berry Global, he was President and CEO at Momentive, a specialty chemical company headquartered in Albany NY. Prior to that, he held positions with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, first as President of the Global Chemicals business and subsequently as President of Goodyear’s North American Tire Division. Dr. Rich spent his formative years at General Electric, first as a research scientist at GE Global Research and then in a series of management positions with GE Plastics.

Dr. Rich received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a Visiting Lecturer at Cornell University Johnson/Dyson School of Business since 2017.

With more than 30 years of business development, sales, marketing and general management experience in the semiconductor and LED lighting industries, Mr. Barlow brings a strong track record of leadership, market vision, business growth, customer and market development.

Prior to rejoining Lumileds, Mr. Barlow served SVP of global sales and business development, responsible for Cree’s lighting division products, channels, revenue and ecommerce business. His background includes various sales and sales management roles in HP’s semiconductor products group. He also served as the Chief Commercial Officer at Intematix Corporation, where he was responsible for the LED phosphor material and lighting component company’s commercial functions including global sales, marketing, application engineering, customer service, business development and distribution.  He first joined Lumileds in 2003, helping to build its LED automotive, camera flash, display and lighting businesses as head of sales and marketing.

Mr. Barlow holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University.

Mr. Buzgar brings more than 30 years of experience in the Automotive and Lighting industries to Lumileds. 

Prior to his current role, Mr. Buzgar served as General Manager of Automotive Lamps within Philips Automotive Lighting—a business group of Royal Philips dedicated to providing best-in-class lighting solutions in the Automotive Aftermarket and Original Equipment Manufacturer and Supplier markets (OEM, OES).

 Previously, Mr. Buzgar was the Head of Operations for HID, a global business unit of Philips Lighting. He was located in Shanghai, China. He joined Royal Philips in 1995. In earlier roles, Mr. Buzgar served as General Manager of Philips Automotive Playback Modules Europe, a Philips company that designed and manufactured navigation systems for the car industry. He also held the position of General Manager Tubular Lighting, a Philips company that designs and manufactures fluorescent lighting solutions. 

During his career, Mr. Buzgar has worked and lived in South Africa, Asia, Europe and the U.S., covering the areas of Product Development, Head of Global Operations and General Management. 

A South African and Romanian citizen, Mr. Buzgar holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara Romania.

Mircea Buzgar

A global citizen and thought-leader in the space of Talent Management, Ms. Giannini brings over 25 years of business experience to her current role overseeing Human Resources at Lumileds. 

Throughout her career, Ms. Giannini has held global HR leadership positions in high tech, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and healthcare technology industries in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston and the Netherlands. Her areas of expertise include HR business partnering, post-merger integration and talent management. 

Prior to joining Lumileds, Ms. Giannini led Global Talent Management at Philips where she oversaw, succession planning, executive search, career management and strategic workforce planning. Her inspirational leadership style, strategic vision and passion for finding the intersection between individual talent and organizational requirements makes her a key asset to Lumileds. 

Ms. Giannini holds a B.S. in Communications from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Megan Giannini
SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer

Ajay Marathe is SVP, LED Operations. Prior to his current position, Mr. Marathe served as Senior Vice-President of Operations at Philips Lumileds – a business group of Royal Philips he joined in October 2011. He brings extensive executive operations expertise encompassing both the semiconductor and solar industries over 30 years. 

Mr. Marathe started his career at AMD in Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations leadership positions, providing him with a strong foundation for his later roles including Corporate Vice-President of Operations for the Computation Products Group and President of AMD India. As President of AMD India, Mr. Marathe was responsible for growing AMD’s India business, expanding it from zero to 25% market share in two short years. 

Mr. Marathe has also provided leadership to the Semiconductor Group of Reliance Industries as CEO. He also served as Senior Vice-President of Operations at Solaria, the solar module manufacturer. Mr. Marathe holds a MS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Texas Tech University where he was felicitated as one of their “Distinguished Engineers” in year 2006.

A Silicon Valley veteran who has structured and negotiated strategic relationships with industry leaders in technology, Ms. McAlpine joined Lumileds as Senior VP and General Counsel. Earlier she served as Vice President and General Counsel at Avnet Inc., the global leader of electronic components and services. 

Prior to joining Avnet, Ms. McAlpine was VP and General Counsel at cloud leader Wyse Technology Inc. and managed the sale of Wyse to Dell Inc. in May 2012. She has held previous roles at Sun Microsystems, Graham and James, and McCutchen Doyle Brown and Enersen focusing on strategic and corporate governance matters, M&A activities and intellectual property transactions. 

Ms. McAlpine is a published author who writes and speaks on industry issues nationally. She has been named one of the Most Influential Woman in Business by the Silicon Valley Business Journal and was awarded the YWCA Technology Women in Industry Award. Ms. McApline serves on the advisory board for the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Alabama and a Juris doctor degree from Suffolk University Law in Boston.

Cheree McAlpine
SVP, Chief Legal Officer

Mr. Teuwen brings extensive finance experience including planning and analysis, controlling, acquisitions, and investor relations to his role as Lumileds Chief Financial Officer. Since becoming an independent company, Mr. Teuwen has held various leadership positions in finance with increasing responsibility before becoming the CFO. In addition to leading the finance organization, Mr. Teuwen also oversees the company’s global IT operations.

Prior to his executive role at Lumileds, Mr. Teuwen spent 10 years at Philips where he held controller and FP&A positions with several business areas including R&D, consumer products, retail, and telecommunications.

Mr. Teuwen holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration as well as a master’s degree in Finance and Investments from Erasmus University, Rotterdam.

Jan Paul Teuwen
Chief Financial Officer

With more than 30 years of deep R&D experience at a range of technology companies, Mr. Vajapey oversees the LED strategy for Lumileds, in close collaboration with technology development, operations, and product engineering.

Prior to joining Lumileds he served as Senior Vice-President of Hardware Development at Oracle, where he played a key role in the development and production of SPARC microprocessors which are used in high-end enterprise server products. Mr. Vajapey was also responsible for transitioning Oracle’s manufacturing to the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) model reducing product development and production costs. Prior to Oracle, he was the Vice President of the Microelectronics Group at Sun Microsystems.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Vajapey spent several years at Texas Instruments where he was the Design Manager and then responsible for Applications engineering for TI Microcontrollers where he helped penetrate various markets including automotive and mobile segments.

Mr. Vajapey earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at Bangalore University and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston in Texas.
